Set in the Seventies' (1970s) backdrop of the tribally dense settlements in the heart of the colliery district of Bengal, Rakta Kadam is a story of Kadam, a young tribal woman and her quest for a better life out of the grease, smog, and soot of the mines. But her fiery husband Manglu, also the local workforce union leader, with his accomplices, Sidhu and Budhu, erects an uncrossable wall around her. Will Kadam succeed in her escape plan to Kolkata with the mine accountant Mohan Babu?
